Proposal

For my main task I intend on creating a regional magazine. The region I am focusing on is the North East of England and I have chosen lifestyle as my genre. I feel like lifestyle is extremely relevant to a contemporary audience as it can include a range of sub-genres to appeal to many different tastes. Some sub-genres I am considering to include are Music, fashion, travel/photography, events, films and food/drink. I aim to produce a magazine that highlights local and interesting things about the north east encouraging young people to love where they came from

The four pages I create will be a front cover, contents page, advert and article.

I will be using some of my inspiration will be from magazines in the regional area such as luxe , it is a company based in Houghton-le- spring near Sunderland; there main focus on magazines is interior and design but they also look at fashion, health and well being and also travel within the north of England.The North-east life mag based in Newcastle which focus on travel within the north east of England also look at local events and things to do in the area. I feel these are the most relevant to my chosen genre and follow a simplistic clean style that I want to approach. Paradoxically, I will be using majority of my inspiration from What youth magazine and Indie magazine for magazines from other locations around the United Kingdom.

For my ancillary tasks I have chosen to create a billboard advertisement and website. The website will be much more suited to my young adult target audience as they are in the generation of technology. I think I will be a lot stronger at creating a print design rather than a radio design as I have developed a lot of skill from using Photoshop in AS therefore will achieve a much more professional finished product. My initial idea for the website is to include a heading for each sub-genre of culture with the main monthly feature on the homepage. I will use a upcoming event, best travel destination or a local food and drink shop for my billboard.

Brief

The first four pages from an original regional magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style), together with two of the following three options:

• A radio advertisement for the magazine
• Two hyperlinked pages from the magazine's website
• A billboard advertisement for the magazine
